The Bee Hummingbird measures only about 6 cm (2.4 inches) in length and weighs around 2.6 grams (0.09 ounces). Females are slightly larger than males.

The Bee Hummingbird is endemic to Cuba, making it the only hummingbird species found exclusively in that country. It inhabits various ecosystems, including forests, woodlands, gardens, and coastal areas.

Male Bee Hummingbirds have a vibrant, iridescent plumage. They often display a mix of green, blue, and purple feathers on their upperparts, with a reddish-pink or pinkish-buff throat and a metallic green belly. Females, on the other hand, have a more subdued coloring, with a pale belly and grayish-green upperparts.
