This Great Spotted Woodpecker barely touches the tree, caught mid-flight in a moment between beats. The challenge here was capturing the lift and motion of the wing while preserving the architectural beauty of its black-and-white patterning. The tree bark and belly are full of warm neutrals with unexpected hints of purple and green, contrasting with the crisp charcoal wing and signature red splash under the tail.
