This luminous little gem was inspired by the Blue-chinned Sapphire, a tropical hummingbird known for its vivid greens and flashes of cobalt and violet. I wanted the portrait to feel as if it were lit from within—like a flicker of sunlight. Painted in watercolor with fine detail and a clean white background, “Emerald” draws attention to the intricate iridescence of this dazzling species.
