Did you know?

Great Blue Herons are skilled hunters with a patient and stealthy hunting technique. They stand motionless at the water's edge, waiting for fish or other aquatic prey to come within striking distance. With lightning-fast reflexes, they strike with their sharp beaks to capture their prey in a split second.

These herons are known for their distinctive S-shaped neck, which they can extend and retract in an almost serpentine manner. This adaptability allows them to strike at prey from various angles and distances, making them efficient predators in diverse aquatic environments.

Great Blue Herons have specialized feathers on their chest called "powder down." These feathers disintegrate into a fine powder as they preen, which is thought to help waterproof and condition their plumage. The powder also serves to remove slime and oils from their feathers, keeping them clean and aiding in flight performance.

Gorgeous!

I discovered Vanessa Thorman’s art at a local shop here in Charlotte and fell in love immediately with her style. I wanted something special for my Dad, for Father’s Day, so I went back but found most of her pieces were sold out. I ended up finding just what I was looking for on her site.
