Did you know?

Rufous Hummingbirds are known for their feisty and territorial behavior. Despite their small size, they defend their feeding territories fiercely against intruders, including larger hummingbirds.

Rufous Hummingbirds are incredibly agile fliers. With their rapid wingbeats, they can hover, fly backward, and change direction with remarkable precision. They can beat their wings up to 52 times per second, allowing them to maneuver through complex vegetation in search of nectar.

Rufous Hummingbirds are remarkable for their long-distance migrations. They have one of the longest migration routes of any hummingbird species, traveling up to 3,000 miles (4,800 kilometers) each way. They breed in the western parts of North America, from Alaska to California, and then make an incredible journey to their wintering grounds in Mexico and sometimes as far south as Central America.
